The switchgear plays an integral role in the distribution of electricity and isolation / protection of electrical circuits. Large currents and power levels are safely controlled by automatic equipment incorporating digital controls, protection, metering and communications. Switchgear systems serve as crucial investment in any industry and there will always be demand where there is economic development.
SMB Electric Pte Ltd was formed in 2000 as a merger with another three switchgear companies, namely Soundtex Switchgear & Engineering Pte Ltd, Avil Systems & Services Pte Ltd and Brighten Switch Board Builders Pte Ltd. Besides the manufacture and sale of switchgear, it is also a metal-working entity which provides the Switchgear Division with the in-house capability to design, engineer and fabricate all types of enclosures and frames for switchgear main-boards & sub-boards, 19” server racks, distribution boards, control panels, motor control centers, power control centers, fire alarm panels and metal cabinets for special purpose housings, all of which are designed to meet international standards.
SMB Electric Systems Pte Ltd, SMB Electric Industries Pte Ltd and SMB Electric Harwal Pte Ltd are self-sustaining business entities which build and assemble switchgear to meet customer requirements in Singapore and overseas. Together with SMB Electric Pte Ltd, the four companies are located in Senoko, Singapore.
The Switchgear Division places great emphasis and focus onto R&D. There is a dedicated team of experienced specialists that participate in continuous improvement projects to seek out enhancements to both processes and products. Technological innovation is the hallmark of the Switchgear Division, as with active customer engagement. Such practices ensure that up-to-date solutions are provided to addressing evolving industry needs. In the process, timely support is offered to customers with the result of greater customer satisfaction levels attained. The Switchgear Division further set up an in-house test bay station of 1000kW capacity to perform full load tests on completed main switch-boards and sub-boards in order to ensure that the equipment shipped out were able to meet the most stringent electrical requirements.
Going forward, the switchgear business continues to spearhead the creation, development and manufacture of the industry’s most advanced switchgear technologies. In its efforts to constantly upgrade its product range from the traditional Mac modular switchgear, the Switchgear Division has introduced M-Cube, its latest modular switchgear system. Combining the latest improvements in frame and structural design, coupled with the option for withdrawable modules, the revolutionary M-Cube switchgear is not only space saving but also offers superior switchgear features compared to others in the industry. The Switchgear Division is fully committed to product quality of the highest level and completed verification tests on all the M-Cube LV models in the last quarter of 2009. This means that the M-Cube range is compliant to the latest IEC 61439-1 requirements.

Power Quality Management
Customers require a high quality power supply on which to run sensitive electronic equipment and high electronic loads for successful business operations in today’s knowledge-based industries. The power system management solutions developed by the Switchgear Division help to ensure the quality of power supply. This consists of power quality mitigation solutions such as Reactive Power Compensators and Voltage Dip Compensators. The Fixed Power Quality Analyzer is able to measure power quality.
Busway System
As the sole distributor of the Eaton brand of busway system products in Singapore, the Switchgear Division offers busway service and solutions which include benefits such as flexibility and ease of installation in terms of jointing and fitting. The Cutler-Hammer® Pow-R-Way III busway system can be utilised over a broad spectrum of industrial, commercial and institutional applications. Product features include an epoxy insulation that ensures optimum conductor & system protection and silver-plated joint / contact surfaces that provide high quality connections.
Metering
The Switchgear Division offers sub-meters which allow users to enjoy a world of energy meter reading, billing and collection as the trend moves towards greater worldwide electricity deregulation. The arduous process of metering and billing is automated, thereby easing and enabling the supervision of all energy purchases and utilisation of facilities in a precise and timely way. This system also incorporates accounting practices for private energy billing and compilation, which allow users greater flexibility and time to focus on management issues rather than operations.
