Power & Technology
With origins tracing back to 1978 in Australia as a contract manufacturer of small-scale electronic products to its incorporation in Singapore on 15 March 1997, listing in Singapore’s SESDAQ in 2003 and subsequent transfer to the Mainboard of SGX-ST in 2007, the Group’s Power & Technology division has come a long way. The division designs, manufactures and markets the most technologically sophisticated electronic revenue meters in the world.
This business division has strong Research and Development (“R&D”) teams in Australia, Singapore and China to undertake R&D activities to develop technologically advanced state-of-the-art meters and a suite of cutting-edge applications, as well as introduce enhancements to the existing range of meters. The meters are versatile and can be customised to meet the specifications of customers. Customers can therefore embrace the technological breakthroughs for the benefit of their businesses. The PowerSignature™ energy management system developed by the Switchgear division is the epitome of our synergy as it is also used in energy metering for sub-meters and billing management systems for the Power & Technology Division.
The division, led by EDMI Limited, specialises in the manufacture of top end tariff / non-tariff intelligent, microprocessor-based electronic energy meters and power quality performance systems. EDMI and its subsidiaries are dominant in the global arena for innovative and technologically advanced smart metering products and systems for the global utility industry. EDMI’s metering portfolio includes a comprehensive range of premium quality metering products, advanced infrastructure and energy management systems.
The meters, with their advanced features are well-received by utility companies that are involved in the generation, distribution and supply of electricity in Europe, the ASEAN region, Middle East, South Africa and Oceania. The division has carved a niche market for providing turnkey solutions to meet the demands and needs for power & energy monitoring and power quality management services by providing applications-driven and cost-effective solutions in specialised areas.
Customers are broad-based and cover the following market sectors:
- Electronics
- Semiconductors
- Chemical
- Oil & Gas
- Food & Beverages
- Utilities
- Waste Treatment
The signature meter models, the Mk6, Mk7 and Mk10 meters have gained market acceptance from electric utilities industries worldwide. All meters comply fully with IEC standards as well as specific national standards in many countries around the world. The meters also possess software capabilities for easy reconfiguration and come with a range of communication abilities for remote readings. In 2006, EDMI was authorised by the U.K. Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (OFGEM) to self-certify electricity meters on their behalf. EDMI was also approved by SAC-SINGLAS as an accredited factory in compliance with IEC/ISO 17025:2005 for testing of electricity meters. In 2007, EDMI was further awarded by SGS (UK) for compliance with Directive 2004/22/EC.
Electronic tariff meters have replaced the traditional electromechanical meters in many parts of the world, including many Asian countries due to deregulation and higher consumer expectation. This facilitates the introduction of automatic meter reading (“AMR”) and advanced metering infrastructure (“AMI”) technologies, sub-metering and energy management systems where EDMI meters are well suited for these applications. The meters are primarily used to measure transfers of electricity among power stations, transmission companies, distributors and end-users for both commercial and industrial applications.
EDMI has leveraged onto the worldwide trend for electricity deregulation and offers private submetering systems for users to enjoy greater convenience in energy meter reading, billing and collection. This system automates the laborious process of metering and billing, enabling an accurate and timely management of all energy purchases and consumption. It also incorporates accounting practices for private energy billing and collection, allowing users to better focus on energy management rather than operational issues.
In 2006, EDMI expanded beyond its metering portfolio to provide customers with network metering solutions and AMR software.
This strategy places EDMI as the front runners in the electronic energy meters industry. The division will continue to add interface and communication features into the products to improve suitability for use in most systems. The division also continues to grow the core competencies needed to be a technology partner or solutions provider to customers. Through in-house development and technology partnerships, the division has developed data retrieval and processing system software such as Eziview, EziSetup and Multidrive which will fully exploit the advanced features of the devices. This will facilitate the ability to communicate via media such as power line carrier (PLC) devices, GSM, TCP / IP, UDP / IP, RS485 / 232, PSTN / ISDN, GPRS / Radio, etc.
EDMI has marketing offices and servicing hubs in several regions worldwide. These centres serve as regional customer service and technical support centres which are responsible for supporting specific local market requirements. Besides handling customer enquiries and providing technical support, they are used to calibrate, customise and repair EDMI meters. EDMI regularly conducts sales presentations and seminars to prospective clients and participate in energy industry trade shows to showcase meters to prospective clients.

Other Products
Multi-Drive
A comprehensive AMR data management (Accumulation and Retrieval) software that enables the remote retrieval of large volume meter data from meters and other measuring devices. Its flexible, scalable system architecture using distributed communication servers for high performance and robustness simplifies use in large scale AMI / AMR, utility or sub-metering applications. Meter readings can be done via PLC, GSM / GPRS, LAN, PSTN and other communication media. The use of Multidrive instead of general AMR software allows for optimisation of meter reading processes and utilising the full spectrum of features in EDMI meters.
Eziview
Windows based software system designed to work with PowerSignature™ software to provide power monitoring and reporting functionality for data retrieval and configuration.
EziSetup
Windows based application designed to configure EDMI meters in a production environment.
Atlas WH1 Wireless Data-hub
A radio based data logger that utilises the Coronis Wireless Retrieval System. These data-hubs collect data pulses from other utility services where laying of cables back to the energy meter is not practical. It is designed to work with the Mk 6, 7 and 10 meter series.
MkL16 Data Logger
A wired data logger with 16 input channels that collect pulses from other utility services via cable connection.
